Freight & Salvage Coffee House
Berkeley, CA
Freight & Salvage Coffee House is a Bay Area icon dedicated to promoting awareness and understanding of traditional music from regions, ethnicities, and cultures worldwide. Founded in 1968, the venerable folk music institution operated as a successful business for fifteen years before becoming formally incorporated as the Berkeley Society for the Preservation of Traditional Music. Today, the nonprofit boasts a 440-seat theater, cafe, and classroom for musician workshops. Salter provided acoustical consulting in the organization’s remodeled 1920s building. The LEED-certified space features a top-of-the-line Meyer Sound system, and reclaimed wood from a 1950s service station creates optimal acoustics with a touch of nostalgia for the intimate setting.
