Community School of Music and Arts
Mountain View, CA
The Community School of Music and Arts is the largest non-profit provider of art and music education programs in both Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. Created in 1968, The Community School found its first permanent home in this 25,000 square foot building, where a top design goal was creating a superior acoustical environment for the 204-seat recital hall.
For improved sound isolation and reverberation control, we designed sound-absorbing and diffusing panels for wall installation, as well as a sloped ceiling to direct sound to the back of the hall. Salter also provided room acoustics, sound isolation, and HVAC noise reduction recommendations for the 20 practice rooms, choral room, dance studio, and visual art space. Low velocity air-ducts in the ceiling and exterior sound isolation (to buffer against the Caltrain Peninsula rail line 800 feet away) create a quiet ambient environment.
