Thompson Hotel is a luxury boutique hotel in the vibrant Gulch district of Nashville. The client wanted to take advantage of the rooftop’s spectacular view of downtown to create an energetic dining and nightlife experience. However, the restaurant noise caused disturbance for the hotel’s premium rooms directly below. Our team called on a deep portfolio of hospitality projects to present innovative solutions to bring the hotel’s vision to life.
Noise and Vibration Control
Building a rooftop restaurant and bar directly over the 14-story, high-rise hotel presented several challenges:
- Noise and vibration control for architectural adjacencies
- Upgraded floor-ceiling assembly incorporated into the project design
- Tight deadlines to meet overall construction schedule
Creative Engineering Solutions
Salter studied the project constraints and schedule to address the critical floor-ceiling assembly between the rooftop restaurant and bar and below guest rooms. We developed the following solutions:
- Recommendations for room acoustics and noise and vibration controlÂ
- Analysis and consultation for HVAC noise
- Floating concrete slab for entire restaurant floor
- Upgraded resiliently-attached ceiling assembly in below guest rooms

One Building with Many Functions
Thompson Hotel opened in 2016 to widespread acclaim. The rooftop restaurant and bar is a bustling venue for fine dining, cocktails, and regional brews overlooking downtown Nashville. Our acoustical solutions create a win-win solution for the client:
- Lively rooftop restaurant and bar for an active nightlife scene
- Quiet, vibration-free premium penthouse guest suites
- Acoustical engineering seamlessly integrated into project timeline
