De Young Museum
San Francisco, CA
San Francisco’s landmark museum showcases a diverse art collection from 17th to 20th century America, Africa, and the Pacific. Nestled in the heart of Golden Gate Park, the design team used natural materials like copper, stone, wood, and glass to integrate the 300,000 square foot museum with the lush landscape. The interior features a 144-foot education tower, sculpture garden, store, cafe, and auditorium. Salter provided acoustical design recommendations to reduce noise transmission between sensitive adjacencies, including the auditorium, exhibition construction shop, and galleries, while mitigating mechanical noise throughout the museum.
